During the 2-hour trek in the Valle d’Itria, you’ll learn dry stone wall construction, and taste selected wines and sandwiches with local products. The experience, at “Trulli Loco,” is for a minimum of two people, with on-site parking and the option of transfers starting from 15 €. Trekking with the construction of the typical dry stone walls of the trulli is one of the must-do itineraries available at our vacation home facilities, both at Trulli Loco and at Trulli il Castagno.

The Itria Valley, located in Puglia, is famous for its characteristic trulli, as well as for the dry stone walls that define the fields. If you want to discover these ancient artifacts, the trekking experience, including a demonstration of the construction of these typical dry stone walls, is ideal. The whole experience also concludes with a typical Apulian snack, to be enjoyed in the midst of the countryside of Locorotondo and Martina Franca.

The trekking excursion with wall construction begins from one of the properties owned by the Spalluto family, at Trulli Loco, located in the countryside of Locorotondo. The approximately 4 km route follows ancient country paths, some of which were impassable due to brambles and bushes. With the sponsorship of the municipality of Locorotondo, Vincenzo took care of cleaning and restoring the oldest and most compromised sections, preserving the integrity of the historic dry stone walls that define each side.

During the trekking, you’ll come across various types of walls, each with their own characteristics. The trulli and the view of the Itria Valley enrich the walk in nature. At the end of the trekking route, as part of the proposed experience, guests and participants have the opportunity to learn how to build a dry stone wall using the original and heavy tools of the “mastro paretaro” (wall master).

After the practical lesson in wall construction, it’s time to rest in the shade of an ancient olive tree and enjoy a simple snack, prepared with typical local products:
